• You list that the venue is free, but what are the conditions?  

Mimosa is FREE to hire subject to the type of event you're planning and the number of adult guests you plan to invite. We don't allow you to supply your own catering/outside catering or drinks but have a wide range of catering packages for all budgets from basic nibbles, buffets, afternoon teas, formal sit down meals or just a Pizza Party for all! Your booking is just dependant on the number of guests and what day of the week or date you're looking to have it plus the type of event and whether you'll be looking to have a day or evening event. If your anticipated guest numbers are too low then we might still be able to book in a private party if a certain level of catering or drinks packages are booked in. Alternatively we might suggest an exclusive bottomless brunch as a day party. This is still subject to a certain number of guests, but is more ideal for smaller groups. 

 

• What type of catering can you provide?

We can supply basic nibbles, buffets, afternoon teas, grazing buffets, sit down meals (such as our large sharing roast)  (See our Food Menus) or formal sit down meals ideal for anniversary meals and Weddings. We also have a formal children's menu at a discounted rate.

We offer discounted drinks packages for anyone wishing to supply their guests with a drink on arrival or a cheeky shot later in the night with event toasts!

• Do you need a booking deposit?

Yes we require a small booking deposit to secure your date but this is fully refundable after your event, if all goes ahead as planned. If you choose to have food at your event, then this charged amount doubles as both a deposit and as part of your catering cost and is knocked off the overall cost.

• Is there Parking at the venue? 

​We're lucky to be situated just across the road from a Multi Storey Carpark on Madeira road in Bournemouth which has 24 hour secure parking enabling your guests to drive to your event and leave their car overnight. It's just £6.10 for 24 hours which is the cheapest car parking in central Bournemouth. Mimosa is also just a ten minute walk away from Bournemouth Train & Coach station and is walking distance to many local Bournemouth hotels and Airbnbs too. In fact, we can even recommend Airbnb accommodation in Bournemouth or just down the road in Boscombe and Southbourne.

• How many guests can you accommodate? 

Mimosa has a basement bar as well as a ground floor bar meaning we can host large events over both floors or smaller events in one function room. We can host a sit down meal for up to seventy guests upstairs - ideal for wedding receptions, and seat forty guests for a meal downstairs, with further relaxed seating and a dance floor - ideal for evening receptions!

• What facilities do you have?

We are a fully licensed events venue with two bars over two floors. We have male and female toilets on the level ground floor, a dance floor, both dining and casual seating, a stage with space for live entertainment and a Baby Grand piano! We also have a DJ booth both upstairs and downstairs and a full PA system for those with their own playlists or anyone wishing to bring in their own DJ. For events such as celebrations of life wakes, we also have screens that are ideal for showing photo slideshows of a loved one.​

 

• Can you host a whole Wedding?

We can host a whole wedding reception! For anyone that's booked to get married offsite in a local church or Bournemouth or Poole town hall or other civil ceremony location, we're pleased to say that we can host your Bournemouth Wedding Breakfast and evening Wedding reception at Mimosa. You'll pay nothing for our venue hire and our well priced Wedding Catering packages are versatile and affordable, so we're the obvious choice for a flexible Wedding Venue in central Bournemouth

• Can we decorate before the party?

Yes, we allow an hour prior to every party for hosts to decorate, or for third parties such as DJs or bands etc to set up. Evening parties usually start run from 7:30pm - Midnight latest with any set ups from 6:30pm. If you need any more time for set ups then you are of course welcome to put a later start time on your party invites. Please note that the staff team will be doing their own set ups and clearing up from day events during this set up period and so the bar itself may not be open for drinks until 7:30pm onwards.

• Can we organise our own DJ/ play our own playlist?

Yes and yes. You're very welcome to book your own DJ. We have a full PA system on both floors that can connect to any device, which means they don't need to bring as much equipment as most venues require. We can also arrange to play your own playlist if you don't wish to have a DJ.

• Are children allowed at our private event?​

Children are allowed into the venue and our license permits them to stay until 10pm, but for occasions such as Weddings we can extend this with the council for a small fee. We are only able to extend our license in this way so many times a year and so we generally limit them to Wedding bookings.

 

• If i have enough guests to meet your minimum requirements, can i host any event and still have free venue hire?

If you're looking to book a celebratory event where drinks and food are the primary objective - then yes! If you are looking to host any business related expo, corporate demo, or similar event where the focus is less celebratory than what could be defined as a party, then do speak to us to find out whether we can help. It may not fit the criteria of our Free venue hire requirements, but we have other event hire options such as our corporate Delegates Packages

• Can i take a look around before booking?

 Yes, you're welcome to view the venue if you haven't been in before, but because we don't have set opening times, we have limited viewing slots and generally try to arrange viewings just prior to bookings and events. We try to show the venue as accurately as we can in videos and gallery photos though, so please have a browse for an idea on the space we offer.
